Biography
After a PhD in neurosciences (1980; UofM), Dr. Joanette completed a post-doctoral training in neuropsychology and behavioral neurology in Marseilles (CHU Timone and EHESS). He thereafter became a CIHR Scholar (1982-1987) and Scientist (1987-92). He chaired the Speech Pathology and Audiology department from 1992-97 afterwhich he became Scientific Director of the CRIUGM (1997-2009). He is currently full professor at the faculty of medicine of the University of Montreal and a CRIUGM researcher since 1982.
Research interests
- Behavioral and fMRI studies of aging and the impact of a right hemisphere lesion on communicative abilities (semantic processing of words, narrative disourse, pragmatic abilities), and its clinical implications (evaluation and rehabilitation)
- Heterogeneity of cognitive impairments in mild cognitive impairments and dementia
- Collaborations on other topics: neglect, wayfinding, recovery of aphasia, pragmatic abilities in autism and schizophrenia.
